The land uplift forced the move of the harbour from Bodback to its current location at Svedjehamn in the mid-1940s. You can see the highland cattle and old boathouses at the old harbour and enjoy the peaceful environment.
The Swedish king Gustav II Adolf granted tax exemptions due to the transport of travelers and goods across Kvarken, which Björkö villagers carried out for almost 400 years. In 1951, a monument was raised to commemorate this transportation, and at Bodback Harbour, you can still see the foundation of the boathouse that held the mailboat.
This old tradition was resurrected in 1982 when the commemorative event Postroddden was introduced. The event has been arranged every year since then on the weekend following Midsummer.
Another monument, located at Bodback, was raised in 2009 in memory of the Russian army's offensive in order to occupy Sweden in 1809. The offensive started at Bodback and continued across the ice towards Umeå.
