The Björkö landscape is characterized by its unique nature and traditional archipelago settlement. Since Björkö rose from the sea in the 9th century and the first inhabitants moved here in the 14th century, the sea has affected life on the island. Fishing and seal hunting were the most important sources of livelihood for a long time.
